Spring 2009
May was another busy month for the Saint Paul Building & Property Ministry in our effort to keep the St. Paul Facility functioning to meet the needs of our volumninous outreach ministries.
Here are a few highlights:
A preventive mainenance was performed on our air-conditioning system. We found that squirrels had chewed throught and removed several electrical connections & wires. To address this issue, we surrounded the chiller unit (at the top of the bell tower) with 160 square feet of metal hardware cloth to prevent squirrels from gaining access to the internal components of the chiller unit.
We have installed a brand new recessed hose spigot (the previous one damaged by the recent arson). The job took almost 8 hours as the plumber had to remove the old copper pipe from 12 inches of solid concrete and drill through 1/2 solid square steel rebar within the original church wall constructed in 1924. The rebar "consumed" 6 drill bits in all.
A one foot section of 2" copper pipe was ripped from 2 feet below the soil surface in the front of the St. Paul building. Supposedly removed to "scrap" the value of the copper pipe. Luckily David Hodel and I had removed the sprinkler manifold at sprinkler shut down last fall. The damage will cost a few hundred dollars to repair. We are having constructed an impenetrable metal cage to surround the piping and manifold to prevent this from happening again. Last year the entire manifold and piping was stolen for scrap and Ric White had it replaced.
The St. Paul Property Ministry is in vital (need I say desperate need of "self-directed" individuals or groups to help with maintaining the St. Paul facility. A constant array of needs (mostly small projects) are always in the queue to be accomplished. Once again, little to no experience is required, simply a desire to support the outreach ministries of St. Paul Lutheran Church by keeping our building and property in a condition which we (as a congregation) can take pride. Please Contact the Church Office to volunteer. Even two hours a month would be greatly apprciated!
