Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon Local Assistance Ministry of Saint Paul opens the doors to the West Community Room, and the people of Saint Paul go to work providing emergency assistance for people who come to the church seeking help.
In Matthew 25 Jesus tells his companions, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” The Local Assistance Ministry works to serve the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community: the poor, the homeless, the elderly, and the differently-abled. The lay people who staff this ministry focus on listening, meeting basic needs, hospitality, advocacy, providing hope, and building relationships.
Those who give of their time each week offer hospitality, a light lunch, and a sympathetic ear. They make decisions about the best way to help. Many of the clients are homeless or about to be evicted from their homes. Some need help filling a prescription, some need gas for their autos, and some just need another person to listen.
This ministry is funded by the congregation and by grants from other churches and neighborhood groups. If you are interested in giving your time or in giving a financial gift, please contact Saint Paul. |
